Buffalo, or bison have been a large part of our operation from the start of the farm in 1970. We bought our first animals from Custer State park in Custer, South Dakota. Our original purchase was 56 head, which was the largest herd in the state. Over the many years we have strived to build one of the best herds in the nation with weight gain on grass as the main factor. As of this time, we have over 300 head grazing on mostly warm season prairie grass during the summer and cool season during the winter. I think you will agree that buffalo from Shepherd Farms will make a nice start or an addition for your herd.
